Junior Tour Spring Series IV
Spring Series IV
Shadow Lakes GC
April 14-15, 2012
The Junior Tour of Northern California, sponsored by Capital Insurance Group (CIG), saw another great weekend of golf at Shadow Lakes GC in Brentwood, California. All four flights came down to the wire as no margin of victory was more than three strokes the lowest of the season.
The Boys’ Championship Flight went to a sudden death playoff between Justin Pagila of Dublin and South San Francisco’s Nicolas Noya after both players posted a two-day total of even par 142. Pagila prevailed on the second playoff hole to win Spring Series IV, a satisfying win after two previous runner-up finishes in Spring Series III and Spring Series I. Fremont’s Hayden Shieh, runner-up of Spring Series II, finished alone in third posting a 1-over par 143.
In the Girls’ Championship Flight Roseville’s Madelin Gedeon came from an amazing nine shots back to start the day to win Spring Series IV by shooting a 1-under 71. Her 36-hole total of 151 edged out four other competitors at 152: Alameda’s Carly Childs, Kathleen Scavo of Benicia, Oakdale’s Mabel Wong and Katherine Zhu of San Jose. Due to a scorecard playoff Wong earned second place honors, while Childs took third place honors.
Charles Osborne of Reno won the Boys’ First Flight with a 149 two-day total. Coming in as runner-up was Orinda’s John Stenovec, who finished two shots back at 151. Sunnyvale’s Jensen Li matched Osborne’s 73 on Sunday to move himself from a fourth place position to start the day and into solo third place at 152.
Yealimi Noh’s dominance in the Girls’ First Flight finally came to a hault as the Pleasant Hill resident finished outside the top spot. Instead Antioch’s Sabrina Virtusio seized top honors with a 36-hole total of 154 with back-to-back 77s. Noh came in second after shooting a two-day total of 157. Finishing in third is Emily Rotter of Fremont, who fired a 36-hole score of 165.
A special thanks, of course, goes to Shadow Lakes GC for their support of our juniors. With its marvelous facility and golf course, our appreciation goes to their staff for their contribution in the success of this weekend’s tournament.
